Ultimately, what we're creating here is a sustainable community of conscious loving people. We have an ongoing dedication to providing ourselves, and the global community, with an opportunity to grow and learn.
"Yeah, but what do you really do?"
Aside from nurturing this vision we share, we do get on with the practicalities of daily community living. Depending on our talents and aptitudes, we are each crafting our responsibilities; Greg likes to build so you'll find him busy with various building projects, as well as managing the farm itself. Sabina - a qualified biologist who ran a wildcat refuge - tends to our animals and again, is involved in a number of other activities (including looking after her son Max).

Chris and Tanya look after our marketing and communications, developing brochures, the web site and our education projects. Harold works with the animals and on the land, and his wife Lizbeth is nanny to Max and looks after the houses.

Alternative living in action
Much has been accomplished in ten years. As well as cultivating the land for food production, more recently we've been following Biodynamic® farming principles, based on the work of Rudolf Steiner and Viktor Schauberger. Of course, ultimately, we're aiming to create a fully sustainable environment for ourselves. We have developed our ponds for watershed management and aquaculture. We use the farm's manures and waste for compost and to feed the bio-gas digester, which generates gas to fuel our stove. And that's just the beginning...
Cultivation with care
We have a diverse collection of exotic fruit and spice trees as well as cultivated wood trees, planted in accordance with a design that addresses the issues of forest soil and resource conservation; recycling and reduction of waste; bio-diversity and organic pest management (e.g. companion planting). And we feed ourselves from a whole range of veggies, ranging from delicious salad greens, through to squash, eggplant, beans and tomatoes. Naturally, the kind of produce varies by season. |

Medicinials, herbs & essential oils
We also grow and maintain a variety of medicinal and culinary herbs and trees in our gardens such as Pau D'arco, Echinacea and Cinnamon, which allows us to produce high-quality, organic medicinal tinctures, spices and herbs. We have a still and now manufacture our own essential oils, including Ylang Ylang, Citronella and Cinnamon. In time, we hope to develop our own natural cleaners and body-care products. |
Tropical retreats
We have a beautiful building here, we call it 'The Bamboo House'. This spacious and airy structure was designed with workshops and retreats in mind so it's fully self-contained with room for 20 people. It features an ample expanse of deck, overlooking the valleys below, and there's a beautiful Rancho perched a little further up from the facility, perfect for catching resplendent sunsets. Tours
Why not see for yourself how we do things around here? Email us to arrange a comprehensive, two-hour guided tour around the farm. (Closed Sundays.) We'll show you the Biodynamic® and organic farming techniques we employ; help you identify the many plants and hardwoods; guide you around the nurseries, and then complete the tour with natural refreshments. We would welcome a donation of $10.00 pp - children free. (Please bring a hat, sunscreen, water and some sturdy footware.) |
